Dialga Origin is the Steel/Dragon restricted that trades the raw damage ceiling of other restricted Pokémon for an unmatched defensive profile and a toolkit that covers most of the format. Its Steel typing gives it resistances to the Fairy, Ice and Rock pressure that threatens other restricted picks, and its Dragon STAB, backed by a strong special Attack, pressures the Neutral boards. Its signature move, Roar of Time, provides a powerful single-target hit, while its bulk lets it sit in front of the format's top special attackers. Its weaknesses are the classic Steel package — Fire and Ground coverage — and its Speed is genuinely poor, so it needs Trick Room or other speed adjustment to move before the format's faster threats. It is at its best as a bulky special attacker that punishes teams that fail to respect its durability, or as a Trick Room setter that doubles as a win condition. Pair it with a partner that handles Ground and Fire pressure and with speed support that fits its preferred tier. Dialga Origin is one of the format's most dependable restricted slots for patient, value-driven play.

Dialga Origin performs best when its role is clearly defined in team preview. As a Special Attacker and Support Pokémon, focus on positioning it where it can execute its job without being forced into unfavorable exchanges. As a restricted Pokémon, it will attract significant counterplay — plan support and speed control around it.
