Its Psychic typing gives it a neutral defensive profile that is difficult to punish, and its enormous Defense and special Defense let it absorb hits that would flatten most Pokémon. Its role is to enable a sweeper — screens, redirection-adjacent positioning and status support give its partner the breathing room to set up and close games. Its weaknesses are significant: its offensive output is nearly negligible, so it is dead weight if its partner is removed, and it is vulnerable to the format's common Dark and Ghost coverage. It also depends on its team having a genuine win condition to enable. Deoxys Defense rewards patient, support-oriented play and is a specialist pick for teams that want a restricted slot that guarantees their sweeper gets the turns it needs. It is not for every team, but in the right structure it is a uniquely valuable enabler.
