VGC analysis
Eternatus is the special Poison/Dragon restricted that gives Regulation M-A's faster teams a reliable answer to Fairy and Dragon pressure while adding a potent speed tier of its own. Its Dynamax Cannon or signature move provides spread pressure, and its Poison typing absorbs the Toxic and status pressure that would otherwise chip away at a team. Its Speed is genuinely good, which lets it outrun most of the format's non-restricted attackers, and its special Attack is strong enough to threaten the bulky cores it targets. The trade-off is defensive: it is weak to the common Ice, Psychic, Ground and Dragon coverage, and it lacks the raw bulk to absorb repeated super-effective hits. It functions best as a hit-and-run special breaker behind redirection, or as a speed control piece that threatens the format's faster attackers. Eternatus pairs well with physical partners that can handle the Ground and Ice threats it cannot, and with Tailwind or Trick Room support to adjust its speed tier. It is one of the format's most flexible special restricted options and a strong pick on tempo-oriented teams.

Suggested usage notes
Eternatus performs best when its role is clearly defined in team preview. As a Special Attacker and Speed Control Pokémon, focus on positioning it where it can execute its job without being forced into unfavorable exchanges. As a restricted Pokémon, it will attract significant counterplay — plan support and speed control around it.
When teambuilding, pair Eternatus with Pokémon that cover its type weaknesses (see counters section below) and provide the speed control or redirection it needs to function. Review the common moves and items section for established sets, then adjust based on your team's specific needs.
