Legal regulations: regulation-m-a
VGC analysis
Zekrom is the restricted physical breaker that Regulation M-A's electric teams use to punish the format's bulky Water and Flying cores. Its Dragon/Electric typing is excellent offensively — Electric covers the Water-types and Flying-types that anchor rain and defensive teams, while Dragon hits the Neutral boards. Its Attack stat is among the highest in the format, and with the right support it becomes a mid-game closer that most teams cannot switch into. The cost is the usual Dragon package: decent but not elite Speed, and defensive fragility to Ice, Ground, Dragon and Fairy coverage, which is abundant in this regulation. Zekrom also wants its Terrain or Tailwind support to reach its speed tiers. It plays best behind a Tailwind setter or with an Intimidate partner that softens the physical pressure it invites. As a restricted slot it asks for a clear identity: if you commit to Zekrom, the rest of the team should be built to answer the Ice and Fairy threats that will inevitably be sent at it. When it is protected, its damage output makes it one of the most explosive options in the format.

- + Usable bulk or offense depending on EVs
- + Pairs well with Metagross Mega
Weaknesses
- − Depends on team support
- − Matchup dependent
- − Watch out for Zacian Crowned

Suggested usage notes
Zekrom performs best when its role is clearly defined in team preview. As a Physical Attacker and Support Pokémon, focus on positioning it where it can execute its job without being forced into unfavorable exchanges. As a restricted Pokémon, it will attract significant counterplay — plan support and speed control around it.
When teambuilding, pair Zekrom with Pokémon that cover its type weaknesses (see counters section below) and provide the speed control or redirection it needs to function. Review the common moves and items section for established sets, then adjust based on your team's specific needs.
