Regidrago is the Dragon special attacker that brings one of the format's most devastating raw damage outputs to Regulation M-A teams. Its signature move, Dragon Energy, deals massive damage based on its remaining HP, which means it is most dangerous at full health and must be played carefully to stay that way. Its Dragon STAB threatens most of the format for neutral or better damage, and its ability, Dragon's Maw, boosts the power of all Dragon-type moves on the field. Its weaknesses are the ones Dragon-types always carry — vulnerable to Fairy, Ice and Dragon — and its bulk, while solid, is not designed to absorb repeated super-effective hits. Its movepool is also very limited, which makes it predictable. It functions best as a fast breaker that hits from turn one while at full health, or as a mid-game threat that punishes the opponent's committed answers. Regidrago pairs well with redirection and with partners that handle the Fairy-types that threaten it. It is a high-damage, specialist pick that rewards teams built around preserving its HP.

Regidrago performs best when its role is clearly defined in team preview. As a Physical Attacker and Special Attacker Pokémon, focus on positioning it where it can execute its job without being forced into unfavorable exchanges.
