Mega Rayquaza is the most dominant restricted Pokémon in Regulation M-A on raw stats: its ability removes the weather drawbacks that normally limit Mega Pokémon, and its stats across the board are elite. It can be built as a physical or special attacker or a hybrid, and its coverage options let it punish almost the entire format from any angle. Its speed tier is excellent, letting it outrun most of the field, and its signature move, Dragon Ascent, provides a devastating Dragon STAB. Its weaknesses are the ones Dragon and Flying types share — vulnerable to Ice, Rock, Dragon and Fairy — and its bulk, while solid, is not designed to absorb super-effective hits, so it relies on positioning and speed support. It functions best as a lead that applies immediate pressure or as a mid-game breaker that closes games once it is on the board. Mega Rayquaza pairs well with redirection and with partners that handle the Ice and Fairy threats it invites. It is the format's most game-ending restricted Pokémon and the centerpiece of any team built around it.

Rayquaza Mega performs best when its role is clearly defined in team preview. As a Physical Attacker and Special Attacker Pokémon, focus on positioning it where it can execute its job without being forced into unfavorable exchanges. As a restricted Pokémon, it will attract significant counterplay — plan support and speed control around it.
