The base Kyurem forme sits below its White and Black counterparts on paper, but it still has a real niche in Regulation M-A: it is the flexible Dragon/Ice restricted that can be built to attack from either side of the spectrum or to run a bulky support set. That flexibility makes it a good choice for players who want the Ice coverage of the fused formes without committing to their single-minded offensive identity. Its stats are solid across the board but not exceptional anywhere, so it does not close games by itself the way the fused formes do. Instead, its value comes from the coverage it provides and from the difficulty of switching into a Pokémon that can hit from both sides of the spectrum depending on its set. It still shares the Ice-type fragility to Fighting, Rock and Fire coverage, and its Speed is mediocre. Teams that use it pair it with strong physical or special partners and use it as a role-flexible glue piece. If you want the Dragon/Ice niche but your team needs adaptability over raw power, base Kyurem is a legitimate, underrated choice.

Kyurem performs best when its role is clearly defined in team preview. As a Physical Attacker and Special Attacker Pokémon, focus on positioning it where it can execute its job without being forced into unfavorable exchanges. As a restricted Pokémon, it will attract significant counterplay — plan support and speed control around it.
