Standard Balance is the most reliable entry point into ChampionsVGC Regulation Set M-A. It does not rely on a single gimmick; instead, it wins by controlling the field with Intimidate, redirection and speed control, then cleaning up with a pair of flexible offensive threats.

The six slots

A typical balance roster includes Incineroar for Intimidate and Fake Out, Amoonguss for redirection and sleep, Flutter Mane for speed control and spread damage, Urshifu Rapid Strike for breaking Protect and bulky cores, Landorus-Therian for a fast pivot and spread pressure, and Kingambit as a late-game cleaner that punishes special attackers.

Leads and game plan

The safest lead is Incineroar plus a partner that benefits from Fake Out. Against fast Tailwind teams, lead Flutter Mane and Incineroar to drop Icy Wind while removing a key threat with Fake Out. Against Trick Room, keep Amoonguss in the back and use Spore or Rage Powder to buy turns while your restricted answer positions itself.

EV and item notes

Incineroar usually runs Safety Goggles to ignore Rage Powder and Spore, but Sitrus Berry is fine if sleep is not a concern. Amoonguss wants high HP and mixed bulk with a 0 Speed IV so it moves last under Trick Room. Flutter Mane is straightforward: max Special Attack and Speed with Booster Energy. Kingambit commonly runs Assault Vest to check Calyrex Shadow and Flutter Mane.

Common mistakes

New players often over-rely on the restricted slot and forget that balance wins through positioning. Do not throw Incineroar away for a single Knock Off. Do not let Amoonguss take two attacks before it gets a Spore off. And always have a plan for the late game: if your win condition is Kingambit, preserve it.
